2nd Aug 2026: The World Council of Hindus UK (VHP UK) – Ilford Hindu Centre hosted a spiritually uplifting Bhagavad Gita discourse as part of the global celebrations commemorating 75 years of Chinmaya Mission, bringing together devotees, families and members of the wider community to reflect on the timeless wisdom of one of Hinduism’s greatest scriptures.
The special evening formed part of Chinmaya Mission’s Amrit Mahotsav, a worldwide year-long celebration honouring the remarkable journey of the organisation founded by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, whose vision has inspired millions across the globe by making the teachings of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita accessible to modern society. Throughout 2026, Chinmaya Mission has been organising spiritual events and Gita-based programmes worldwide to celebrate this historic 75-year milestone.
The event at Ilford Hindu Centre featured an inspiring discourse by Brahmacharini Shripriya Chaitanya, who presented the Bhagavad Gita in a practical and contemporary manner. Her talk highlighted how Lord Krishna’s teachings on courage, inner strength, self-discipline and wisdom remain as relevant in today’s fast-paced world as they were on the battlefield of Kurukshetra over five thousand years ago.
Devotees of all ages attended the programme, beginning with Aarti, followed by the enlightening discourse and concluding with Prasad, creating an atmosphere of devotion, learning and community spirit.
Speaking about the significance of the event, representatives of the World Council of Hindus UK emphasised that the organisation remains committed to promoting Hindu values, preserving India’s spiritual heritage and providing platforms where people can deepen their understanding of Sanatan Dharma. Collaborations with organisations such as Chinmaya Mission demonstrate the shared commitment to strengthening Hindu unity while inspiring future generations through knowledge and service.
During the programme, Chinmaya Mission UK also announced one of the most anticipated celebrations of its 75th Anniversary–“Ganga Aarti on the Thames”, to be held on Sunday, 13 September 2026, at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London. Organised as part of the Totally Thames Festival 2026, the spectacular event will recreate the spiritual grandeur of the sacred Ganga Aarti on the banks of the River Thames. The celebration will feature devotional music, cultural performances, Indian cuisine, community participation and a grand Aarti ceremony, offering Londoners and visitors a unique opportunity to experience one of India’s most revered spiritual traditions in the heart of the UK’s capital.
The World Council of Hindus UK expressed its gratitude to Brahmacharini Shripriya Chaitanya, Chinmaya Mission, volunteers and all devotees who participated in the celebrations. The evening concluded with a renewed commitment to studying the Bhagavad Gita, living its teachings, and strengthening the values of Dharma, unity, compassion and selfless service within British society.
