Sewa International has started distributing food, drinking water, blankets and tents in the Indian states of Punjab and HimachalPradesh which were recently hit by monsoon floods. Sewa is also providing medical care through mobile health units in villages
devastated by excessive rains. Hundreds of Sewa volunteers are serving on the ground and
working closely with the governmentagencies such as Indian Army and Air Force. Floods claimed nearly 400 human lives and devastated over 1,655 villages.
To fund its immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation efforts, Sewa started a fund raiser with an aim to collect $150,000 and sofar has received over $20,000. “When Sewa is involved in relief work, our aim is not to just rebuild homes; we strive hard to restore
people’s livelyhoods and their dignity,” said Swadesh Katoch, Sewa’s Vice President of Disaster Recovery.
