Sivoham: Intangible heritage beautifully depicted through Sapta Tandava

The fully packed hall of attendees at The Bhavan on Friday night experienced a rich cultural immersion as they witnessed dazzling presentation of Sapta Tandavas through different dance streams.

A topic new and enriching, Sapta Tandava is presented in the program titled Sivoham for the very first time in the UK highlighting the indigenous heritage of India that included stories associated with the thousands year old dance form.

Mesmerising performances by Shivani Bhandari, Arya Arun, Yogindra Maravante, Lakshmi Aveen, Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Manju Sunil and Dr Pritha Dasmahapatra have captivated young and old alike. The invocations presented at the beginning of the program demonstrated the efforts made to build the next generation of cultural ambassadors in the UK.

Twenty dancers of different abilities and ages have invoked Lord Shiva through classical and folk dances. Artists and attendees both have traveled distances from different parts of England to be part of this occasion. In his opening words, renowned author of Shiva Trilogy, Director of the Nehru Centre and Minister (Culture & Education) at HCI Amish Tripathi spoke on the relevance of Lord Shiva and commended Sanskruti Centre for raising awareness on such an interesting subject grounded in dharma and spiritual consciousness.

100-400 year old compositions were used for the Tandavas, of Mahadeva Shambho, King Shahuji of Tanjavoor Kingdom, among others.

Artists were felicitated by Dr Mattur Nandakumara. Cllr Sharad Kumar Jha, Dr Nandita Sahu- Attaché (Culture), Dr Rishi Handa- Head of Sanskrit at St James Boys School, renowned singer of international repute Renu Gidoomal were in attendance, besides other dignitaries.

Program was anchored by Radhika Joshi and Raj Agrawal and vote of thanks was presented by Sushil Rapatwar.

The program was conceived and executed by Ragasudha Vinjamuri, founder of Sanskruti Centre.
