As most us in the UK and rest of the world are completely submerged in the post Covid-19 lock down whether working from home, wearing face coverings, or wondering what is going to be the new normal, the news from across the pond on November 2020 election is noteworthy.
The Democrat elect Presidential candidate Joe Biden picked up his running mate one Kamala Harris who hails from a mixed Caribbean/Indian heritage must raise mixed feelings among the Indian diaspora in the USA and elsewhere.
Back in October 2019, according to a newspaper article she had said that ‘We have to remind the Kashmiris that they are not alone in the world’ thus helping her secure this significant place as Biden too has expressed similar pro-Pakistan view in this matter. Democrats are no friends of Indian Americans of the Hindu faith, having made number of anti-India comments with regards to Modi government’s recent taking back J & K as Union Territory, scrapping article 370 and enacting the CAA.
Kamala Harris claims to be a black Christian having taken her oath on the Bible and will have to appeal the Hindu Americans harder in thin marginals. Political parties have depended upon rich Hindus some whom once assuming a position tend to forget about their community or the wider interest of their origins and some would say about Democrat senators Ro Khanna and Promila Jayapal.
Just like the Labour party in the UK who tirelessly appeal to their voter base the wider Muslim community and therefore always support the Pakistani narrative on Kashmir assisted by the tell-tale sympathetic articles in the so called unbiased BBC, the Democrats must be desperate against the outspoken Trump to make such a move.
So, should American Hindus do the right thing especially in the marginals, abstain or vote tactfully to thwart such cynical attempt which could destabilise what Modi ji has accomplished after 70 year so Congress mis-rule? What right do the western politicians have to meddle in a sovereign democratic country’s internal affairs? Why can’t the Hindus all over from whichever political affiliation take a united and tactical decision to send a powerful message to the candidates that just being brown or visiting the temples won’t be enough.
