JalTarang happened with a dream to revive the long-lost love for this ancient Instrument. Paromita based in London and musically inclined took the initiative to create 90 minutes digital concert as a tribute to JalTarang.
The event premiered on 12th December 2020 was facilitated by IIW and The Nehru centre and it has received tremendous response for its quality, presentation and content. Based on the huge success of this event, Paromita believes” it is entirely the acumen of the phenomenal artists and the diversity that Indian music offers that has been instrumental to the success of JalTarang.”
The sole purpose to organise this event was to revive the lost aura of one of the most ancient musical Instrument JalTarang and spread the cultural Awareness of Indian musical styles across globe. Conceptus and Organiser Paromita Goswami tried to correlate the diversified musical heritage of India with the beauty of a JalTarang which brings out free flowing melodic tunes with the help of several Bowls creating tune with aid of water. The event was curated with an array of exceptionally talented Indian artists who performed different musical genres starring from Hindustani classical, Carnatic, Ghazal, Indian Fusion to Indian folk music. The fulcrum of the event being the performance of world renowned JalTarang artist Millind Tulankar.
Around 90 mins digital concert has been hugely critically acclaimed and successful with magnificent response from viewers.
The supportive artists included:Hindustani Classical – Artist Shanghamitra Chakraborty, who is a Vocal Artist and Cultural program coordinator of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, India. She also conducts Live Media programs for Govt of India. She is herself trained under able guidance of Late Vidushi Meera Banerjee from Kasur Patiala Gharana.
A Carnatic Classical -The ancient form of music originating from Southern part of India, our young performer is an extremely talented Carnatic Singer who has won several National Level awards and Recognition for Carnatic music and playing Veena. Saranya Mangal, certified as A Grade artist from All India Radio and Govt of India ‘s Senior scholarship for Veena.
Latif Khan Manganiyar, a professional Rajasthani Folk Singer who has collaborated with national and international projects in many events national and worldwide. He is also Kartal, Bhapang and Morchang player performing Rajasthani folks and their legendary battle songs. The land of Thar hosts one of the most evocative music cultures of the world and Latif Khan is continuing the family legacy of Rajasthani Folk Gharana.
Shramana Chaterji performed Baul and LokGeeti -another form of Bengali Folk. Shramana is a Research Scholar and pursuing final year of her PHD from JNU specialising in the History of Folk Music in the 19th Century of Bengal.
Satadeepa Gupta Mallick performed the rendition of Tagore Songs which are based on Indian Raag Pradhaan. Satadeepa is a professional singer on many events and festivals in UK. Also, she is known for her acumen in Art and Literature and her legacy for being the Granddaughter of Prominent Novelist Padmashree Gyan pith winner Late Ashapurna Devi.
Light Music, Ghazal, Bhajan, Fusion Rock – Nishchay Pahwa, a, a Delhi based aspiring singer and quite popular among YouTube viewers performed Light music Hindi song. He is presently working on the production of his solo Music Album which will be released soon.
Ghazal was sung by Srijit Chakroborty. A microbiologist in Central Research Institute of Fisheries and an eastern classical vocalist trained from Pdt Ajoy Chakraborty and Vidushi Manasi Majumdar, Srijit is an upcoming professional Ghazal artist in India and very much popular for his tonal quality and effortless Ghazal performance.Retired UK Air India Regional Head Debasish Golder a melodious singer and with his baritone voice performed Shlokas and Bhajan.
Fusion Rock – Pathikrit Mazumdar is a versatile singer and multi-instrumentalist based in Kolkata. He is also a composer and music producer. Pathikrit started his musical journey as a child artist under the tutelage of Salil Choudhury, Sabita Choudhury and Antara Choudhury. In his teenage years, he blossomed as a competent singer under the training of Pt Ajoy Chakraborty. Pathikrit started his career as a solo vocalist and bagged the 4th position at Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, 2007-2008. Within a few years he founded the acclaimed fusion music project, Kaivalya, which soon earned national fame. Having won the Runner up position in MTV Rock On, 2010-11, the group started travelling all around the country and abroad with their music. Pathikrit wrote and produced the chart-topping album, ‘Kaivalya’ in 2014. He has also composed and produced several jingles, scores, music videos and independent projects. Apart from producing and performing live, Pathikrit also teaches music.
Light Music -Paromita Goswami presented a light Hindi song based on Indian Raag. A disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Smt Chandana Chakraborty during her formative years of Indian classical Training. She was also trained by Anubha Mukherjee, disciple of Vidushi Shipra Basu. Presently singing on various musical events and performed in Manav Utsav Festival organised by DE Montford University.
