PRITI PATEL -ANOTHER CONCERTED TARGET BY THE MEDIA

The recent media obsession for Priti Patel’s misdemeanours is astounding. Ever since she came to political eminence it would seem like her Indian background, straight talking and a successful journey in life from hard working immigrant parents is not palatable with some liberal middle class and left-wing bias journalists.

Her first self-demoting act was when she was International Development Secretary in Theresa May’s government in 2017. She made headlines at the outset, favouring cuts to UK’s aid programme. The Guardian’s article headline on 18th March 2019 read ‘Priti Patel’s brazen anti-aid agenda is ultimately all about Brexit’  appeared much later after Priti had to resign for making contacts with some Israeli politicians whilst on a family holiday paid by herself. She promptly resigned, remaining an influential Tory MP and came back to limelight when Boris Johnson appointed her as Home Secretary after resounding Conservatives victory in 2019 elections.
The media skirmish continued once again from day one. The channel crossing boat immigrants exploited by heartless smugglers across from France was and is hot topic for any Home Minister let alone Priti Patel.
She had tasked the Migration Advisory Committee to consider how points could be awarded to prospective migrants for things like educational qualifications, language proficiency, work experience and willingness to work in areas or sectors with a shortage of workers based upon the Australian style point system. For average UK citizen this would seem like a fair way to stop rampant human trafficking into UK and spurious asylum seeker claims bearing in mind lot of them would have crossed liberal European countries on their way to UK illegally form Africa, Asia and Middle-east.
The latest media trial involves her to be breaking the ministerial code after an internal standards enquiry found her to be shouting at staff and bullying. With the current pandemic crisis and exponential rise in mental health issue this is not welcome news for anyone in authority. But is this a witch hunt? She is being one of the first Hindu, Indian origin British who represents the wishes of the electorate.
The BBC, in their continuing anti Hindu and anti-India rhetoric whether it is news about India or anyone in high office connected to India ensures disproportionate biased coverage.
Let us look at the news of Pakistani origin Lord Nazir Ahmed who resigned on 17 Nov’20 after reading a House of Lords committee report amid claims he exploited a vulnerable woman. For the followers of his tweets it is blatantly clear how anti-India he is and during the most recent visit by PM Modi to Commonwealth Heads Summit in London, Ahmed was alleged to lead an Indian flag tearing mob in the Parliament Square.
The BBC saw it fit to publish Priti Patel’s news in the same light as if to soften the blow to Pakistan sympathisers of the despicable act that Lord was claimed to be responsible.
This stance continues, check out ‘Any Questions? Any Answers?’ a 45-minute programme of which more than 30 minutes were used to discuss Priti’s conduct for which she has already made unreserved apology. Needless to say, may callers actually have supported Priti although the host Anita Anand kept interrupting them.
Even Radio 4’s ‘The Now Show’ on 27/11/20, a supposedly political satire featured a Muslim comedian taking jabs at Priti, note the programme producer is one Adnan Ahmed!
Hence British Hindus beware- if you want to stand against blatant media targeting our daughter because that is what we ought to adopt Priti Patel as, a shining light spread-heading aspirations of our youth who aspire to be politicians.
It is imperative that Hindus and Indians need vociferous voice at all levels otherwise we will be deemed lame duck as the other side has cleverly and strategically placed themselves. Just check the names of BBC Editors or reporters and stories online about India whether about Kashmir, BJP or RSS.
Why isn’t no media, including British Asian ones doing a full investigation on ex Lord Ahmed, why is not a single story printed on the awful performance of London Mayor during who regime crime, lack of affordable housing, cost of congestion and misery for Londoners increased multi-fold? Why is Hinduism depicted as either easy to take swipe at or underrepresented?
