Maharashtra Mandal London (MML), UK celebrate Mangalagaur festival of Joy and Unity

Mangalagaur, a grand celebration of joy and unity, brought together ladies from diverse backgrounds on Saturday, July 23rd, organised by the ladies of Maharashtra Mandal for the ladies.

This vibrant event showcased a kaleidoscope of traditions, music, and flavours that left attendees mesmerized and inspired.

The air was filled with excitement as the festivities kicked off at the Maharashtra Mandal Hall. Colourful decorations adorned every corner. Traditional dance performances enthralled the audience, their rhythmic moves reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Maharashtra, India.

Traditionally, Mangalagaur is a festival of women, celebrated in a household for the first five years after a wedding. On every Tuesday, during the Shravan month, the newly wedded bride prays to the Goddess Annapurna for a happy marriage and her husband’s longevity. Traditionally, the bride performs the ritual in her own home on the first and last Tuesday of the month and visits other households on those falling in-between.

Mangalagaur is a ritual made up of song, dance and amusing games.  No men are allowed in the festivities,

The Mangalagaur event not only showcased the cultural richness of the India but also served as a platform to promote the local woman entrepreneurs. The whole event was organised and sponsored by ladies. With an increasing focus on cultural diversity, woman empowerment, the event holds great significance in promoting inclusivity and strengthening our bonds.

The event saw an explosion of colours, as participants dressed in their traditional attire, creating a stunning visual spectacle. Smiling faces of all ages immersed in joy and laughter were a testament to the success of the event.Mangalagaur event is organized by a dedicated team of volunteers, aiming to bring ladies together and celebrate the rich cultures within the community.

As the sun set on Mangalagaur, the echoes of laughter lingered, leaving behind cherished memories. The tired faces of volunteers and the event organisers were beaming with pride shows the event’s success in fostering unity and joy.

Mangalagaur is sure to remain a much-anticipated event of Maharashtra Mandal now, promoting harmony for years to come.

  1. This is fantastic and probably first of its kind of reporting of a less known community in London Well done Eshadoot. Those like me who were born in Mumbai would have experienced among many facets of India and since the time of Shivaji or the Amachi Mumbai movement the contribution of this hard working (and playing) maharashtrtrians in the development of post independent India can’t be ignored. Their adherence to their culture, language and most of all, patriotism is remarkable which is displayed in this programme
