The Indian diaspora in the UK gathered in front of the Parliament Square, Westminster, London to show their solidarity to the Ayyappa devotees in Kerala who are fighting to protect their beliefs and customs in Sabarimala.
There is an age old tradition in Sabarimala temple that young women abstain from entering the temple. On Sep 28 Supreme Court of India made a judgement against this tradition that women of all age group can enter Sabarimala Temple. Against the backdrop of this Supreme Court verdict, the Communist Government in Kerala is trying to destroy the Sabarimala temple.
At present huge nonviolent agitations are happening all over Kerala against the Communist Government’s forceful attempt to violate the temple traditions.
Since its beginning an unprecedented number of women have gathered in the streets of Kerala and outside to protest against the breaking of traditions in the Sabarimala Temple. But the Communist Government is trying to suppress these peaceful protests. The Communist Government have arrested about a thousand people so far and many people are still in jail without bail. The devotees have spent about 17 million INR so far just towards legal expenses for getting bails for the arrested devotees.
Kerala BJP state secretary Sri K. Surendran was kept in police custody for long 22 days for participating in the save Sabarimala agitations. Sri Surendran addressed the gathering via Whats App message.
Despite of extreme cold and rain, Around 200 people from all over UK came to London to show their support to the Ayyappa devotees in Kerala. People from most of the states from India were part of the attendees. The attendees chanted Lord Ayyappa mantras and voiced their opinion against the atrocities happening to the Ayyappa devotees in kerala. All women declared that they abstain from going to Sabarimala because they believe in the rituals of Sabarimala, Not because anybody Stopping them to go to Sabarimala. At the end of the function the attendees marched till the Westminster Bridge and then dispersed.
The event was organised by Save Sabarimala UK along with various Hindu organizations in UK. Madhuresh Mishra ,Bharath Shah, Gopakumar , Jayu Shah , Subhash Sasidharan , Sunil Soman were part of the organizing team.
