Vidyapath,  a nonprofit organization for the promotion of Indian art, culture and literature in the UK to support charitable causes in India, organizes its inaugural event, the UK Book Launch of Dr Shashi Tharoor’s Inglorious Empire, Sunday 5th March 2017 at 5pm at Royal Over-seas League, Park Place, St James, London

The cultural intensity of the subcontinent has been for centuries and even today remains impressive and profound.

From Carnatic to Sufi music, miniature paintings to the carvings of the temples of Ajanta and the literature told through dozens of languages and at the same time evolving with different influences from Persian to – offering an interesting spectrum of classic and contemporary arts.  Vidyapath is excitedly bringing some of these arts to the UK, the home of the much loved curry.  Their objective is to help established platform to promote South Asian art and its proponents in the UK for the bVidyapath-3enefit of a collection of small and medium charities in India. They hope to draw together a dedicated community of cultural enthusiasts through a series of curated events.

The initiative is founded by Shivani Sethia and Pooja Maru both of whom have a passion for Indian art and have worked closely with dedicated Indian charities for several years. Shivani is a professional Kathak performer and regularly participates in shows internationally in the US, UK and India. Pooja, a Chartered Accountant and MBA, is partner at a boutique advisory firm and has been working closely with Indian companies for over 15 years. They are supported by a team of young City professionals with a deep interest in India and in advancing its rich cultural heritage.

 Shashi Throor  an author, politician, and former international civil servant, straddles several worlds of experience. Dr Tharoor is an award-winning author of works of both fiction as well as non-fiction. Inglorious Empire is his sixteenth book to release. He is also currently a second-term Lok Sabha MP representing the Thiruvananthapuram constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs.

During his nearly three-decade long prior career at the United Nations, he served as a peacekeeper, refugee worker, and administrator at the highest levels, serving as Under-Secretary General during Kofi Annan’s leadership of the organisation. Dr Tharoor is also an award-winning author of works of both fiction as well as non-fiction, with his sixteenth book having released in November 2016.
