To send the message of love, acceptance, equal opportunity, inclusive society and a sense of belonging amongst the Transgender community a Raksha Bandhan festival was organised at DG Khetan International wherein the transgenders tied Rakhi to the Mumbai Police personnel.
Mr Manoj Pawar BA, LLB working for the Maharashtra Police since last 34 years and now working with the protection and security of Mumbai and providing Z plus security for the VVIPS was the Chief Guest who graced the event with around 20 other Police personnel. Constable Netra from Nirbhatya Squad Malad also attended the event. She apprised the audience her role and responsibility, also Mumbai is much safer and anyone call the number in times of emergency.
The entire event was ideated, conceptualised by Shri Gauri Shankar Chaubey Founder Dwarika Mai Charity Sansthan along with Adv Pankaj Yadav, the first Transgender Lawyer in Maharashtra Founder President Sarthi Foundation and implemented by IIW (Inspiring Indian Women) Charitable Foundation. IIW went further and distributed sarees and cosmetics to around 25 Transgenders.
The event was sponsored by Vijay ji Bagaria, an industrialist who is also a public-spirited citizen associated with the Goregaon Sports Club, Textile Association and holds several important positions in various establishments.
It was jubilant atmosphere at Rajiya Devi Gajanand Gupta Hall at DG Khetan School. Comedian and Star Host Shravan Kumar entertained the audience and kept the show lively. Adv Silk, Adv Pawan spoke on their struggles and how they coped to keep their identity intact and the hurdles at every step. Whether hospitals, schools or home, ostracized and isolated they managed to still live a life of dignity and respect. They fought for their basic needs and often attempted suicide.
The event ended with a great sense of satisfaction and happiness as it managed to disperse the fear of the Police and the Transgenders and also the fear against each other. Indeed, the fact that this ‘Door’ strengthens the bond of love in the society was evident through this event.
