Sanskruti Centre marks Mental Health Awareness Week at the House of Lords

Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence together with the APPG-Dance marked Mental Health Awareness Week through an immensely engaging event at the House of Lords titled “The Role of Dance in Health, Wellbeing, and Community Cohesion”.

Organised under the aegis of Baroness Fraser, the Parliamentary Host, the program included engrossing presentations and dance demonstrations that received huge appreciation from the attendees.

Co-Chair of the APPG Baroness Hooper commended Sanskruti for the rich content generated. Baroness Mobarik and Baroness Sater were also in attendance.

Sarah Quraishi, Press Advisor at the High Commission of India spoke on strengthening the Living Bridge through dance and performing arts. Surgical Registrar in the British Army Captain Munish Chauhan presented dance and music as an intervention for combat stress. Founder of SheInspires Network Gulnaz Brennan spoke on Orange initiative and mental wellbeing of domestic violence survivors, Singer-Songwriter Renu Gidoomal exemplified impact of music on Dementia, and Chanukya Rajagopala spoke on Bollyfit.           Baroness Frase speaking about the role of dance and engagement

Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Founder of Sanskruti Centre, highlighted the benefits of dance therapy in autistic children and in trauma intervention.

Movements impacting stamina, focus, muscle strength, blood circulation, and posture were demonstrated through classical dance performances by Dr. Adriana,  Lakshmi Pillai and Ragasudha Vinjamuri and Kalaripayattu by Hrishikesh Kizhikkiyil.

  1. The beauty and variety of India, especially when one mentions The Ayurveda, Yoga and now of course classical dance. The holistic approach not only freshens the mind and body but provides a ray of hope to young teens suffering from depression and other mental issues. Our ancient practices bring people and community together
