I am sure you all like me, whether at work or home must have been absolutely ‘literally over the moon’ as at last India became the first mission nation in the world to land near the south pole of our beloved Chand, thanks to Mangalyaan.
Chandrayan-3 soft landed on the Moon around 18:04 Hrs IST on 23rd August 2023
What a great achievement and congratulations go to Vikram lander who headed the feat after two failed attempts and of course PM Modi who ensured that every attempt must be made to make this historic moment in exploration possible
India is now the fourth nation after US, former Soviet Union and China whose spacecraft Chandryan-3 is successful to touch the lunar surface. The team of scientists who worked tirelessly and hard deserve hearty applause from over 1.4 billion Indians in our motherland and abroad. The chief of ISRO, over joyed began by thanking the PM for his endless support and faith.
As Modiji said, the poem wordings will change and Chanda mama is near not far! The spacecraft launched successfully on Friday 14 July 2023 from Sriharikota space centre, correctly predicting arrival on 23-24 August 2023 and how accurate they were.
The news headline from major channels and radio talk shows in UK, Europe and USA are all talking about it and the interest this must generate in buddying astronauts must be breath-taking. One might be forgiven to think that perhaps a Gujju must be at the helm of controlling the mission expense which is less than half that of making the Barbie film! ISRO ensued that wastage of products was prevented and so was payload
Funny that sci-fi films on this theme cost lot more than what ISRO spent. Their website regularly gave update and remarkably, details of the first to the fourth orbit and then orbit-raising manoeuvre, insertion into translunar and finally lunar orbit -which would be stuff of dreams even to imagine.
And this will be just the start, as in his inimitable style Modiji said that the landing ‘changes the geopolitics of space’ and next will be a manned lunar mission. All of us were mesmerised when Apollo 11 landed on moon making Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin the first humans to step on the moon. There have, however been number of conspiracy theories whether it was real.
Well, there is no doubt about our Chandrauan-3 landing when the whole world was watching. This has given a new hope and excitement for generation of young people to be aspirational and to take interest in science as the technology can be utilise for human betterment too. And this is India’s true mission, friend of the World.
