Ramayan Satsang Pariwar UK organised its yearly ‘Akhand Ramayan Path’ on the 8th and 9th October 2022 at Barkingside, London.
Ramayan Satsang Pariwar UK is a group of about 30 families who migrated to the UK between 2005 and 2008 and gathered together to keep Hindu culture and tradition alive in a foreign land. Akhand Ramayan Path means non-stop chanting of seven parts of Ramayana which usually takes more than 24 hours. Since 2009 this has been annual ritual, and even during Covid pandemic, the Ramayan path was conducted with all due care and broadcasted live on the group’s Facebook page for all devotees.
This year’s program at Avanti Court Primary, Barkingside (ISKCON) School started with procession, wherein few family performing sthapana pooja (initial set up before holy activity) lead to the venue with Ramayan book over their head. After Sthapana pooja chanting started with lot of fervor amidst harmonium and drums complimenting in the background. As part of sewa for the event organising team had prepared prasadi food for around 500 people on Saturday evening and 300 people on Sunday morning. The chanting of Ramayan path was attended by many residents across London and nearby cities. For the whole 24 hours, many devotees enthusiastically participated in chanting together, which created a vibrant and devotional atmosphere. Many devotees also joined the event through broadcast on Facebook live page.
Alongside the chanting, the team had arranged Ramleela skit showcasing events that led to birth of Lord Ram. Many children played vital roles in the skit giving them deeper insights into Ramayan in the process. The skit performance was also enjoyed by many guests. After the skit to symbolise victory of good over evil Ravan effigy (prepared by women power in the group) was burnt.
