As midnight has already passed in India by the time this article is penned, what a scene it would have been 75 years ago in India!
To be rid of the colonisers through sheer hard work of Gandhiji and his non-violence principles and sacrifices many of the Swatantra sainiks must be unique. Who does not remember the famous song ‘Chhodo kal ki baaten, kal ki baat puraani Naye daur me likhenge, mil kar nai kahaani Hum hindustaani’ which has lived through the years and in todays’ India under Modiji we are writing a new chapter.
Our heritage and culture are under attack for centuries, the marauders from central Asia, Europeans looking for spices and lastly the British who called us their Jewel in the Crown. Had Gandhiji not been thrown out of the first-class train coach in South Africa, God knows how much of our resources would have been spirited away. Now of course there is another class, media both Indian and Foreign who relentlessly criticise us, not least BBC. Already articles are out to dampen down the celebrations which refer to press freedom. Well, the same journalists who studied under India’s excellent subsidies system won’t say anything against China or Turkey where such freedom is evaporating already.
For most NRI’s India’s peaceful progress is pleasing, judging by what is happening in Ukraine our enemies and expansionist neighbours are intent on terrorism, conversion and sabotaging of pro-India policies of the government. Which other country with so many languages, religions and cultures has remained undivided? Look at the Arab spring and subsequent turmoil and the situation in South America and other countries with natural resources. India’s spiritual heritage can teach the world’s masses how to progress within and for others.
Having lived through the draconian Emergency rule in 1970’s by Congress party and its one family dynasty we are in much better shape and would be dictated by other super-powers. Our errant neighbour will think twice before sending their religious fanatics to kill innocent victims. The recent Kashmir Files film has changed the whole narrative of those claiming to be perennial victims to heartless aggressors.
So, this is my India -onwards and upwards, ‘Sab ka saath sab ka vikas’
Sujalam suphalam malayaja sheetalam Shasyashyaamalam maataram, vande maataram
To all fellow Indians all over the world, wish you a very happy 75th anniversary of Independence
