While 75 years of Indian Independence and 70 years of HM Queen’s coronation are being enthusiastically celebrated allover, history has been made with the marking of the 347 years of coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji in the UK. Organised by the Nehru Centre- Cultural Wing of the High Commission of India in London and Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence, the event saw a packed auditorium of attendees and participants from different parts of London and beyond, in spite of the tube strike on the day.
In his speech, Amish Tripathi, celebrated author and Director of the Nehru Centre underscored imbibing Chhatrapati Shivaji’s qualities of belief and bravery in our day-to-day lives. An amazing veneration to Shivaji Maharaj presented by renowned Powada singer Vinata Joshi, grand niece of Veer Savarkar has set a befitting tone to the evening.
The monologue presentation by the Trustee of Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence Sushil Rapatwar and the description of the grand coronation that took place on 6th June 1674 was captivating. Annika, Renuka, Sharvani and Nidhi from KKMUK presented Nataraj Vandana choreographed by award-winning dancer Ashwini Kalsekar and young Arya Tarhalkar, Nivaan Dughrekar, Adheej Bhat, Rishikesh Rane, and Asmi Khairnar narrated the life story of Shivaji Maharaj.
The song “Hey Hind Shakti” by Rajshree Wakhare, speech on the war tactics of Shivaji by Warrant Officer in British Army Ashok Chauhan MBE, celebratory dance by Harsha, Pratima, Sriranjini, Hamsa, Sushma, and Rama have all electrified the atmosphere.
Anchoring of the event was done by Manoj Karkhanis and the program was coordinated by Ragasudha Vinjamuri- Founder of Sanskruti Centre.
