Ramayan Satsang Pariwar UK had another successful year of organising Akhanda Ramayan path in London on weekend of 16th October in Avanti court Primary school. It marks the 13th year of this annual event where a group of 30 families, from all parts of India come together around Dussehra and organise this 2-day extravaganza. The weekend event had participation from over 600 people with some visiting from faraway places in England.

The Ramayana as most of us know is the Hindu holy book with over 20,000 verses, recounting the story of Prince Rama and showing how the good wins over evil. Reciting Ramayana is believed to bring in good luck and fortune.

The event unfolded on the morning of the 16th with a procession accompanied by the drums with devotees chanting in the background. Pooja was performed before starting the Ramayana recital and once started the recital was completed in 24 hours with no breaks in between. The volunteers read the Ramayan through the night and ensured that the recital was completed before scheduled aarti & yagya on Sunday.

The team went to great lengths to make prasadi and traditional Indian food for all the 600 people visiting on Saturday & Sunday. It took weeks of preparations and late evening calls by the volunteers to ensure the flawless execution of the event. As an icing on the cake the volunteers raised over £1700 for Avanti trust, the leading Hindu faith schools in UK.

It is heart-warming to see the community coming together in such a way and ensuring that we can have a feel of home away from India.

  1. Very good initiative. One of our greatest legends being recited non-stop in a London school is testimony of dedication of all Bhagwan Shri Ram devotees and may it continue
