BJP leader Ram Kadam said the party will not allow Javed Akhtar’s movies to be screened in the country till he apologises for his recent statements comparing the RSS and VHP to the Taliban.
Lyricist and film writer Javed Akhtar and films associated with him and his family may face trouble in coming days. BJP leader Ram Kadam has said the party will not allow Akhtar’s movies to be screened in the country till he apologises for his recent statements comparing the RSS and VHP to the Taliban.
“RSS-affiliated politicians are at the helm of affairs in the government. These leaders are running the country following Raj Dharm, if they were like Taliban would Mr Akhtar be allowed to make such a statement. This one analogy proves that his statements are farce. But by making such comments he has hurt the sentiments of RSS workers who work poor people in the country. If he doesn’t apologise to them we will not allow his movies to run in this country,” said BJP MLA and spokesperson Ram Kadam.
The BJP’s youth wing took out a protest march to Javed Akhtar’s Juhu residence on Saturday, demanding an apology for his statement. “We think that Akhtar is not mentally stable. This country has given him everything. RSS helps people at the grassroots and he has compared them to Taliban. This is unacceptable. If he doesn’t apologise our agitation against him will only get more intense,” said one BJP youth wing protestor.
Akhtar also reportedly said that India is a secular nation, the population is also largely secular, but there are those who support organisations like the RSS and VHP and have the same ideology as the Nazis.
Security was beefed up outside the residence of writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar in Mumbai on Monday after a Maharashtra BJP MLA demand an apology from him over his remark where he allegedly compared the RSS with the Taliban, a police official said.
Akhtar recently told a news channel that right wing all over the world has an uncanny similarity.
“The Taliban want an Islamic country. These people want to make a Hindu Rashtra,” the lyricist said without naming the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
BJP MLA and state party spokesperson Ram Kadam condemned Akhtar’s remark.
The legislator from Mumbai said no film involving Akhtar will be allowed to be screened in the country until he apologises to Sangh functionaries over his comments.
The Shiv Sena, which shares power with the NCP and Congress in Maharashtra, on Monday said Akhtar was “completely wrong” in comparing the RSS with the Taliban.
“How can you say those who favour the concept of a Hindu Rashtra are of Talibani mindset? We don’t agree with this,” an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said.

It is only India where a person like Javed Akhtar can give this statement and nothing will hapen to him or his family. But he should be careful before giving such statements.
This is a pathetic remark from someone who I used to admire since Sholay. Both he and his wife take every opportunity to further their cause and make ridiculous remarks. Far from comparing the two totally opposite groups- one brutal vicious and going back centuries, the other defending the right of the Hindus in a peaceful way. Obviously, the likes of Akhtar are getting uncomfortable as no one pays any attention to them and he has to make the insulating remark to Hindus all over the world. To compare Hindu activists with Nazis is another favorite and a weird figment of imagination by some of these Muslims, even BBC uses that sometimes and we Hindus should wake up and send a robust rebuttal to this idiot.
