Whilst the whole of UK is in national lockdown because of the new COVID-19 variant, hospitals are working beyond capacity our national broadcaster is busy in once again like a shameless propagandist trying their absolute best to pit one religious’ community against the other. This magazine has stridently raised their voice against BBC monopoly of continuing to produce ‘has been’ stories of no positive effect for the wider Indian diaspora.
The case to point is BBC Sounds series 4th offering of ‘Three Pounds in My Pocket’.

The title purports to generate more than a passing interest in listening to find whether the stories and people interviewed resonate with a normal immigrant of the mid 1980’s making it in the UK. Sadly, the expectation is short lived. As I listened through, having to wait for the third episode for the reporter to engage equal number of Hindus as Sikhs (a professor and a shop keeper) and Muslims (3-4 ranging from a Mayor in Bradford, a film maker, and a DJ etc.) nowhere in the talks, apart from solitary Mr Singh who could be a Hindu from Leicester was allocated a proportionate time. The conversations comprised tales to inform the audience as ‘racial’ attacks bypassed the Hindus who came to this count. Talking about the town, the reporter completely ignored the contributions by Ugandan Indians who came her penniless but have made significant contributions in this country’s economy as already voiced in clip played wherein Margaret Thatcher specifically mentioned ‘Indians’ success story.
In fact, describing the attack of the Holy Golden Temple words such as ‘Hindu majority’ government were used. The last episode did bring in a Gujarati woman only to narrate the now defunct notion of castes as if these were the only aspects to be broadcast of a British Hindu. Little does the reporter want to acknowledge that in each religion there are sub castes, just look at any matrimonial advert. A few times the word ‘Brexit’ was used, and this sounded like another ‘remoaner’ plug and tyring to play an apologist or victim from a Muslim point of view. If not, why was the horrible child grooming story of Bradford and surrounding towns not brought into fore when most Pakistani men who actually perpetrated the heinous crimes were conveniently described as ‘Asians’?
For those followers of the Asia section of online BBC news should hardly be surprised to notice their standard script now that Mr Modi is India’s PM, to taking every opportunity to use prefixes like ‘right wing Hindu’, and similar disparaging titles to paint our great religion which inspired likes of Beatles in this country.
For the British Hindus there are questions to be raised of BBC Board of Trustees like
- Are the BBC deliberately shunning the Hindus and always determined to rubbish us as unlike the others, we are mature and tolerant and will not start burning a book because someone says something against our deities? Or kill innocent civilians in the UK and abroad in the name of their religion?
- Is the onslaught because of a serious in-quality in the proportion of Hindu reporter’s vs Muslims and others? Or reporters who can provide an unbiased news?
- Why are BBC becoming the Labour Party’s mouthpiece at licence fee payer’s expense?
- It is wrong to stereotype anyone however why are the BBC editors when it comes to the aspects of community cohesion, radicalisation do not like to state the truth and conduct thorough investigation into which fundamentalist religious section is a drain to this country?
- Why are stats not produced to work out which of the Hindus and other immigrants are more likely to be patriots, less benefit dependent and less radical? Which community comprises a higher proportion in British prisons?
- Why is ‘jobs for the boys’ culture so rampant at the organisation, as recent twitter outrage by the famous British Indian artist Apachae Indian is already campaigning for the abolition of BBC Asian Network

There are many more however in my opinion there needs to be a fundamental change in the organisational structure of BBC reportage when it comes to the Indian diaspora in the UK. If they, with the help of the British Left want to open of the wounds of the horrible incidence at Amritsar and create a rift between the Hindus and Sikhs for political advantage then we are no longer in world’s foremost democracy. By giving more airtime to Labour’s vote base only validates this argument.
We at Eshaddot are committed to monitor BBC news, sounds and links and whilst the whole country is reeling from the pandemic, every community should feel safe and part of the progress. BBC’s attempt to ‘brown wash’ a religious majority some of members of which want to glorify ‘Wahhabism’ and do free media coverage for the very people whose motives are detrimental to the rest is clearly bizarre and counterproductive.
I would urge you to check out BBC’s wasteful efforts in other online news sections, especially India where copious amounts of anti-India and anti-Hindu stories are generated by confetti and ask similar questions.
