An all-encompassing program highlighting classical and folk-dance forms, songs, handlooms, painting, creative art, and the cuisine of Odisha dazzled the attendees recently. Conceived by Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence and organised in association with Jagannath Temple Trust UK, the program included opening words and best wishes by Amish Tripathi, Author and Director of Nehru Centre (ICCR London), Dr. Nandakumara, Executive Director of the Bhavan, and Soumendra Mahapatra, Second Secretary (Visa) at the High Commission of India. Dr. Sahadev Swain presented a bird’s eye view of Sanskruti Centre’s work for the last 10 years.
The session began with an invocation by Dr. Bhagyashree Singh. Padma Vibhushan Dr. Raghunath Mohapatra spoke on Pattachitra art. Guru Satyapira Palai joined the session from Odisha and has explained about Gotipua dance tradition with his demonstration by his young students. Mayurbhanj Chhau presentation by ICCR-empanelled dancer Rakesh Sai Babu, Odissi dance by Dr. Natalie Rout choreographed by Guru Ratikant Mohapatra and Narayan Sahu’s sand art presentations were all captivating. Folk dance traditions included Thia Puchi Naranga introduced by Hrusikesh and Sudipta Panigrahi, and Rangabati dance by Pragyan Devi, Reena Khuntia, and Reena Meher.Presentation on Handlooms by Dr. Rosalin Patasani Mishra of Parichay Foundation, Odisha Cuisine by Dr. Jayashree Nanda, and on the vision of Jagannath Temple Trust UK by Dr. Prakash Dey were all interesting. While backend support was given by Sushil Rapatwar and coordination by Sukant Sahu.
