Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress’ show of unity at the five-star hotel on Monday evening was not attended by 162 MLAs as claimed by the three parties.  As per sources, nearly 135 MLAs of the Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP turned up for the event which was held at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Mumbai.

The Shiv Sena, NCP, Congress paraded their MLAs at the hotel to display show of strength amid political chaos in Maharashtra.

While the three parties claimed that a total of 162 lawmakers assembled at the hotel, sources withing Times Now found that only 135 MLAs were present for the show of strength. When NCP leader Jitendra Awhad was asked as to why no headcount was done during the event, he said that there was too much chaos for that. NCP leader Nawab Malik, on being quizzed about the same, said, “If you want confirmation, go investigate.”

Meanwhile, BJP leader Ashish Shelar said that the parade was an insult to the MLAs and the people who elected them. “Identification parade is done in case of accused persons, not in case of elected MLAs. It is an insult to the MLAs and the people who elected them,” he said.

Earlier today, the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress MLAs assembled at Hotel Grand Hyatt and took a pledge not to get lured into doing anything that would benefit BJP. “I swear that under the leadership of Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray & Sonia Gandhi, I will be honest to my party. I won’t get lured by anything. I will not do anything which will benefit BJP,” they pledged.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, NCP president Sharad Pawar, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge among other top leaders of the three parties were present at the event.

During the show of political strength, Thackeray dared BJP to cross its way. “If you do not know what Shiv Sena is, try crossing our way, we will show you what Shiv Sena is,” he said. “Our fight is not just for power, our fight is for ‘Satyamev Jayate.’ The more you try to break us, the more we will unite,” he added.

Pawar also addressed the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress MLAs at the hotel and came down heavily upon the BJP for forming government in the state “without majority”.

“We are here together for people of Maharashtra. A government was formed in the state without a majority. We saw what BJP did in other states too. Be it Karnataka, Goa, or Manipur, BJP didn’t have majority anywhere but formed the government,” he said.

“We are ready to face a floor test. We have written assurance of 162 MLAs. We are fighting for truth. Ajit Pawar used the whip in a wrong manner. Ajit went against the party and we took action against him,” he added.

Ahead of the parade, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut had said that 162 MLAs of NCP-Congress-Sena will be present at Hyatt and sent an open invitation to Maharashtra Governor.

“We are all one and together, watch our 162 together for the first time at the Grand Hyatt at 7 pm, come and watch yourself,” Raut had tweeted.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, NCP president Sharad Pawar, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge among other top leaders of the three parties were present at the show of strength at Hyatt.
