Perambalur: The Mangalamedu police in Perambalur district arrested the headquarters speaker of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) from here on Wednesday for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah.

M Mohammed Shareef, 24, of Marsingpet in Trichy was arrested by the police on charges of disobedience to order, threat to a public servant, provoking breach of peace and criminal intimidation.

The arrest came five days after he addressed a street corner meeting of the party at Labbaikudikadu in Perambalur. The meeting happened on August 23. He made abusive comments against Modi and Shah for enacting a law to ban instant triple talaq and withdrawing the special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.
The video of his speech went viral on social media. In the speech, he also dared the intelligence police to take note of his remark.

After analysing the video, police registered a case on August 26.
Reacting to the arrest, president of TMMK, M H Jawahirullah condemned the comments made by Shareef and removed him as the headquarters speaker for speaking in violation of the principles of TMM.

  1. Serves him right – free speech doesn’t mean you can insult the PM of the country after proper laws have been passed. Comapre this with absolute subjugation suffered by Hindu minorities in Bangladesh or Pakistan who would not even dare to speak out. This sets good example to any future bravados

  2. It is important to have firmness in administration.Corruption in India still exists everywhere . people have the rights to speak against the Government and also against the Political parties and its leaders. When a person is arrested , police should be able to give full statement what he or she was saying in public platform. Otherwise we know very well what some of the police officers can do .
