Matondkar who recently joined the Congress party, had earlier questioned why she is being asked about her religion. She said she wants to do “politics above this”.
“Why am I being asked about my religion? I don’t think I have given this right to anyone because that right only belongs to me. I know it, my family knows it and my in-laws know it. I think this is just the beginning. I want to do politics above all this,” Urmila told ANI.
“Hinduism has become most violent of them all” she said
The Congress has fielded her from Mumbai North Parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. In the 2014 General elections, BJP’s Gopal Chinayya Shetty won the seat.
Matondkar was inducted into Congress in the presence of Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and newly-appointed Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora.
Urmila Matondkar belongs to a Marathi Hindu Family. Her father, Shivinder Singh, is a lecturer, and mother is Rukshana Sultana.
She is married to Mohsin Akhtar Mir, Kashmiri businessman and model.

Being from Mumbai and judging by the discussion I have wit my old classmates she will have a job to win. Her comments about her religion or the fact if she converted is her business however by now its well known not least since Rahul Gandhi sneaked into safe muslim influenced seat in Kerala that she is trying to ferment anti-Hindu political stance and naturally it will have the desired effect
