Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar was on hand to unveil the nationwide movement, New India Conclave in Mumbai.
The Pad Man star has been appointed as a brand ambassador for the campaign, an initiative which is the biggest ever non-government rural outreach programme organized in association with renowned NGOs. Akshay Kumar, made it clear he was passionate about a cause that he feels can help build a society.
Akshay Kumar was all smiles as he arrived at the event, and showed his enthusiasm and support for the achievers, innovators and policy makers in India’s rural communities by describing them as “heroes” who are changing the landscape and that change will be visible when people start focussing more on solutions than problems.
He launched the New India Conclave alongside the Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, praising the “inspiring stories” of “rural achievers” in a tweet.
Reflecting on his trips to rural India and the characters he has played, Akshay Kumar fondly spoke of his love for the countryside and how they have had a big influence on him. He passionately explained that the New India Conclave Awards will be important in providing more holistic development for the country.
He continued to show his admiration and respect for those who live in the rural communities and the challenges they face with water, pollution and greenery. He stated that “we are creating a platform where people…will share their story… So that others can follow that same idea to resolve the same issue”
Also in attendance was Y4D President, Praful Nikam, who heaped the praise on the Toilet: Ek Prem Katha comedy actor, for his inspirational movies which have celebrated rural development and that he was the perfect fit for Brand Ambassador.
The New India Conclave is scheduled to take place in July in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of various states.
