Amethi (UP), Jul 30 (PTI) Brothers in this district have lined up a different gift for their sisters this Raksha Bandhan – a toilet.

To make the open defecation free campaign successful and create awareness about sanitation here, the Zila Swachchhata Samiti (district committee for sanitation) has started a programme “Anokhi Amethi Ka Anokha Bhai”.

Giving details of the plan, Chief Development Officer(DPRO) of Amethi Apurva Dubey told PTI that 854 persons from different blocks of the district have registered themselves as “brothers” with the district committee to gift a lavatory to their sisters on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The lavatory will be constructed by the registered brothers with their own resources, she said.
Later, a lucky draw will be organised to give prizes to three participants. Cash prizes of upto Rs 50,000 and mobiles will be given to the winners.

Dubey said the construction of toilets will be checked and verified by a team of officials and the prizes will be given to lucky winners at a district-level programme.

The district committee for sanitation includes the district magistrate, chief development officer and the DPRO.

  1. Building toilets is important but if there is no sewerage system in the villages and towns then what will happen . Will you be able to enter in the toilets. So we have to build septic tanks with the toilets . Are they building septic tanks as well or not ? These septic tanks have to be cleared regularly. Will they do it? these are the question we must answer. Otherwise this is good advertisement for nothing .India and Indians will not benefit at all.

  2. While some of us NRIs are still in old and outdated habit of rubbishing anything good coming out India, the Amethi story is exactly the message the new Akshaykumar film being realised on 11th August ’17 is trying to project. Let us not forge that even in the UK this problem persisted in not too distant past and but for the goodies the Empire looted from colonised countries (Read ‘Inglorious Empire’ by Shashi Tharoor) the Briish would not have any chance to steal a march on the poorer countries. Every village should aspire to follow the example and the local authorities should help and they will to augment the infrastructure but certainly positive step! well done brothers

  3. This is one of the best positive news and obviously the publicity is working. In 60 years + the awful Congress party could not manage to permeate the minds of common Indians with such great initiative. Well done brothes!
